Different certification steps have been initiated nationally and internationally by the CINES to recognize and highlight the implemented quality procedures.

National level

  • The SIAF certificationfor the preservation of public non-current records. This certification is delivered for three years and is renewable. Achieved for the first time by the CINES in 2010 (first public operator who obtained it), it has been renewed in January 2014. The certification candidates have to comply with some rules: compliance with existing standards (especially the NF Z 42-013 standard and the OAIS model); implementation of a policy of security, preservation and confidentiality of the submitted archives…
  • Many internal and external audits since 2009 in collaboration with the consulting firm Ourouk.

International level

  • The Data Seal of Approval (DSA) certification. This certification has been created in 2007 by the DANS (Data Archiving and Networked Services) in the Netherlands, to ensure that archived data can still be found, understood and used in the future. The DSA is delivered to data repositories who have implemented quality insurance procedures to guarantee the accessibility and the intelligibility of the information. The applicant has to explain, with documentation as a proof, how his platform answers to the 16 DSA guidelines. CINES has received its first certification in 2011, which has been renewed in 2015.
  • Test audit ISO 16363. As part of the European project APARSEN (Alliance Permanent Access to the Records of Science in Europe Network), CINES has been one of the six archiving centers chosen to test the “Audit and Certification of Trustworthy Digital Repositories” (ISO 16363) guide before its publication. The objective was to evaluate its relevance and applicability. Two audits happened in 2011, one internally, the other externally, the last one being based on the final report of the internal audit.
