Description and Scope
High-Performance Computing (HPC) technology is becoming increasingly important as a key-driver to push European economic growth and Scientific Research. A comprehensive tool that can support the development of a wide array of scientific domains (like Big Data, earth observation and ocean study) and impact societal challenges as well.
The Webinar aims at introducing the Phidias HPC initiative to the European HPC and Research community, including main features, expected impact and advantages for Research & HPC ecosphere. The project is paving the way to increase the HPC and Data capacities of the European Data Infrastructure by pursuing the following objectives:
- Building a prototype for earth scientific data
- Enabling Open Access to HPC Services
- Strengthening FAIRisation
- Creating a framework combining computing, dissemination and archiving resources

Speakers Profile:
Boris Dintrans (M) is the Director of National Computing Center for Higher Education (CINES), a French public institution, located in Montpellier (south of France) and supervised by the French Ministry for Higher Education and Research. He is also the project coordinator of PHIDIAS project (Prototype of HPC /Data Infrastructure for On-demand Service).
Pascal Prunet (M) is Chief Executive Officer of SPASCIA. He has expertise in the infrared hyperspectral remote sensing observing systems for the atmosphere, their data processing for level 2 product retrieval and their simulation through radiative transfer. He actively participated to scientific projects for the exploitation of remotely sensed data, in particular for developing data screening on hyperspectral atmospheric sounders (IASI, Sentinel 5P) and their exploitation for scientific purposes and application developments, in air quality and climate.
Jean-Christophe Desconnets (M) is a senior engineer at IRD. He is a geomatic scientist at MICADO research team of ESPACE-DEV. He has two complementary competences. The first one is an environmental competence in water science Jean-Christophe Desconnets is specialized in Spatial Data Infrastructure design with an emphasis on semantic discovery and data processing capabilities. Mainly, he led the design and the implementation of the technical part of spatial data infrastructure over various national and European projects. He is the PHIDIAS WP5 leader.
Cecile Nys (F) is an assistant manager of Ocean Data cluster – Odatis at Ifremer. She is a bioengineer (Agricultural engineer) with a double specialisation in the Management of Fisheries and the Coastal and Continental ecosystems and in the Forests and Natural areas engineering; polyglot (FR-NL-EN-ES) with 4 years of work experiences, she acquired key skills and knowledge.
ALEKSI KALLIO (M) works as a development manager of data analytics at CSC – IT Centre of Science Ltd. The data analytics group focuses on machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data and data science development and consultation. He has a long background in software development, distributed systems and data management. Originally a software engineer, he has then ventured into data analytics and holds a PhD from data mining.
